A gentle question

Can somatic therapy really work over a screen?

It's the question most people ask, and it makes sense. Somatic therapy is about the body, so it can seem like you'd need to be in the same room.

But the work was never about me touching you or watching you from across the room. It's about you noticing what's happening inside you as it happens: a tightness in your chest, a breath that catches, an urge to look away.

That noticing happens in your body, wherever you are.

My job is to slow things down, track what I see and hear with close attention, and help you stay with your experience long enough for something new to happen. On video, I can see your face, your breath, your posture and the small shifts that tell us something important is happening. I'll check in with you often about what you're feeling inside, and we adjust together.

Many people find online sessions easier, not harder. You're in your own space, you don't have to drive home after a big session, and you can curl up with a blanket or your dog. For some people, especially those who find new places or people overwhelming, that safety is what lets the deeper work begin.

Why people love working online

The depth of the work stays the same. What changes is how easy it becomes to show up.

Your own safe space

Settle in at home, with your own blanket, your own tea and no drive afterwards. Feeling safe is what lets the body soften.

two

Anywhere in Australia

From the city to the bush, you can work with a somatic therapist even if there isn't one nearby.

Times that fit your life

Evening times on Tuesdays and Thursdays, plus Saturday mornings, for people who work during the week.

Who Online Sessions Suit

Online sessions work well for most people who are ready to slow down and feel what's there. You might recognise yourself in some of these.

  • I live somewhere regional and there's no somatic therapist nearby.
  • I've done lots of talk therapy and self development, and I'm ready to work with my body.
  • My life is full and I want therapy without the travel time.
  • I feel more at ease in my own home.

Online work isn't the right fit if you're in crisis and need urgent support, or if you can't find a private space to talk. If that's you, I'm happy to help you think through other options.

Tori Reid, Hakomi informed somatic psychotherapist and founder of InnerBloom, smiling in warm afternoon light

Meet Tori

Hi, I'm Tori Reid, a Hakomi informed somatic psychotherapist in the Northern Rivers of NSW and the founder of InnerBloom. I work online with people right across Australia, and in person near Byron Bay.

Before training in Hakomi, I spent more than a decade as a bodyworker, including an advanced KaHuna bodywork qualification. That time taught me how deeply the body holds our experiences, and how gently it can let them go when it feels safe.

Online, I bring the same close, warm attention to your body as I would in the room. You don't have to perform being okay here. You can arrive just as you are.

  • Trauma informed
  • 10+ years in bodywork

Common questions

Is online somatic therapy as effective as in person?

For many people, yes. The heart of this work is your own awareness of what’s happening in your body, and that happens just as well at home. Some people find they settle more easily in their own space, which can make the deeper work feel safer.

We go slowly and stay close to what feels manageable for you. If things start to feel like too much, we’ll pause, and I’ll help you come back to feeling steady before we finish. You’re always in charge of the pace.

Yes. Hakomi is a mindfulness-based approach, and its gentle, curious attention to your present experience translates beautifully to video.

Sessions are $150, the same as in person, and run for 60 to 75 minutes.

I’m based in NSW and see clients right across Australia. When you book, I’ll make sure your session time is clear in your own time zone.

No. You can book directly with me, no referral needed.

Yes, for many people. Somatic work with trauma is slow and careful. The focus is on helping your nervous system feel safe enough to process what it’s been holding, and being in your own familiar space can support that. We always go at a pace your body can manage, and if online work isn’t right for you, I’ll tell you honestly.

Many people come to me with anxiety, overwhelm or panic. Somatic therapy helps you notice what anxiety feels like in your body and learn, gently and in real time, how to come back to steadiness. Because you practise this at home, the skills come with you into everyday life.
